On 22 July 2025, a radiosonde cluster experiment took to the skies above Carmagnola, Piemonte, in collaboration with the Philofluid Research Group, coordinated by Prof. Daniela Tordella.
The experiment deployed a cluster of 20 radiosondes, with data transmitted via LoRaWAN gateways. The launch site was located in Carmagnola, a recognized meteorological station for ARPA Piemonte. This marked the second deployment utilizing the public LoRaWAN network, a continuation of earlier testing.
The mission was considered a notable success: data packets from the radiosondes were detected at distances extending as far as Šibenik, Croatia. The initial dataset comprises packets received through the network of LoRaWAN gateways.
Some of the recorded trajectories from the radiosondes are presented below, showcasing the experiment’s range and the potential of public LoRaWAN networks for atmospheric research.
